One evening in late May, while browsing blogs, I stumbled upon a book called Food and the City by Ina L Yalof. I quickly began reading. It was my first time diving into a nonfiction book focused on the world of food and restaurants in New York.
I will share my book review in another blog, but here I thought the vocabulary might be worth sharing—especially for language learners or food lovers. From ravioli to vinaigrette salad, and tortilla, these words often appear in English novels and magazines.
As for alcoholic beverages, the book doesn’t cover them much. I might do a separate post on that another time.
The vocabulary list I’m sharing here is image-based—just pictures, no definitions. This blog has featured several visual word lists before. When online sources have outdated or low-quality images, I create new ones myself to make them easier to use and print.
One related book I’d also recommend is New York Cult Recipes by Marc Grossman. It’s a beautifully curated cookbook covering everything from bagels and cheesecake to Jewish and Italian-American classics. The recipes are simple to follow, and most ingredients are easy to find.
All image materials are sourced online and used here solely for demonstration and educational purposes. The word list is printable for study and classroom use.
